If you are a Veteran and ready to pursue a life of financial and personal independence, you have come to the right place.

Having been in your shoes, we know that most Veterans have the soft skills needed to become a successful entrepreneur. But when it comes down to it, you still need the aptitude and right mindset to launch a new business.  As a leader in the military, you were trusted to lead teams and make decisions; however, you were still part of an organization that provided you with various missions and guidance.  Now that you are on your own, it’s your show and no one will be telling you how to run your own business.

There are many key traits an entrepreneur needs to posses, but when it comes right down to it, you need to be prepared to make your own decisions.  That starts right now.  No one ever builds a successful company 100% on their own and there is no reason to reinvent the wheel.  Becoming an entrepreneur is a career choice like any other.  We can help to provide you with the education, training and a network of like-minded veterans and experts to help you…but at the end of the day . . . everything starts with you!

Is Startup Veterans Right for You?

Entrepreneurs come in all kinds of shapes and sizes; there may be a general profile, but there isn’t any particular type of background that makes a great entrepreneur.  That’s why we are not here to focus on your resume, education, or even your particular military occupation.  But in order to provide you with a better sense of some of the traits we value, here are some areas upon which we focus:

Being an entrepreneur is not about perfection; it’s about imperfect action.  You need to be able to think on your feet and make quick decisions.  You have to being willing to fail fast and then bounce right back.  Analysis paralysis is one of the worst traits you can exhibit during our process; if you are not ready to join the program when you begin our process, then chances are you are not ready to become an entrepreneur.

We are not interested in looking at your high school or college transcripts — we understand that ‘intelligence’ can come in many forms.  What we look for is business aptitude.  When you start your own venture, you need to be able to identify new opportunities, identify trends, solve problems and come up with creative solutions to many challenges.  That’s why we look for people who think outside the box, because if you are a conventional thinker your best option may be to find a job.

As a leader in the military, your job was to motivate and inspire.  But being an entrepreneur requires motivation on many levels.  It all begins with self-motivation, which means that first and foremost you need to be accountable to yourself.  Therefore, we look for people that are extremely goal-oriented and task-focused.  If you need people to provide you with direction to succeed then you are likely not going to be good entrepreneur.

As a member of our Armed Forces, you know full-well the weight and importance of individual integrity.  So if you expect us to invest our time in helping you, we need to understand that you are willing to be honest with yourself and us when it comes to the commitment you are going to make to succeed.  Therefore, we are looking for people with strong moral fiber who can demonstrate they meet their commitments, treat everyone with respect, and have the ability to build and maintain trust with others.

Sales Potential

You might not have had formal sales training in the military (unless you were a recruiter), but whether you know it or not, part of being a leader was convincing others to accomplish tasks and missions they may have not been too keen on accomplishing.  So here is a reality check: sales is present in almost every area of an entrepreneur’s life.  If you want to grow your business, you need to know how to influence and move people, and that means that being a great entrepreneur requires being a great salesperson.  So when we begin the process, your first task will be to sell us on why you think you are ready to join Startup Veterans and succeed at becoming an Vetrepreneur.
