Aaron Houghton


Aaron Houghton co-founded iContact Corporation and served as the company’s Board Chairman from 2003 to 2012.  In August 2010, iContact closed on a Series B investment of US$40 million from JMI, adding to previous investments from NC IDEA, Updata Partners, and North Atlantic Capital.  Just a couple years later on February 28, 2012, iContact was acquired for US$169 million by Vocus, a public-relations marketing service.

Aaron is also Co-Founder of, a free service that matches entrepreneurs with potential co-founders based on compatibility to ensure the highest chance of success and maximize long term economic impact. Aaron is also Co-Founder of, a directory of companies leading the exploding startup scene in downtown Durham, North Carolina.

Prior to iContact and Preation, Aaron was CEO of CollegeUnited, a pioneer in online auctions, CEO of CollegeDirect, a company supporting campus election information services, and CTO of MainBrain School, a provider of school administration software to the K-12 market.

Aaron holds a BS in Computer Science from UNC Chapel Hill, has been honored with several prestigious awards including being an American Electronics Association Spirit of Endeavor Award Finalist in 2007 and winner of Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2008. Aaron serves on the board of Soccer Kids of America, a non-profit organization that teaches kids about teamwork, respect, and ethics through the game of soccer.
